SECTION 3
Landscape Basics: Digital Inventory Types

The three main digital inventory types provide varying levels of targeting and allow advertisers to reach audiences across the national marketplace. Each serves a particular function in a marketing mix and can be utilized to meet the unique goal of an advertiser, whether that be brand awareness or bottom-of-funnel conversions.
- Streaming Audio Ads are part of a national marketplace with numerous targeting options, similar to those available for streaming video, everything from demographic to geographic to advanced targeting using 1st and 3rd party data.
- Podcast Run of Network Ads are often grouped within a specific genre or target demographic to achieve a more cost-effective CPM, foregoing the ‘voice’ of the host but unlocking quick scale and broad swaths of content.
- Host Read Podcast Ads mainly belong to a national marketplace, with some networks gradually introducing geo targeting options. However, these ads are mostly limited to countrywide purchases.
