Google Plays a Pivotal Role for Consumers Searching for Both Home Services Providers and Reviews

When actively searching for home services companies, 86% of respondents said they start their search online, compared to only 14% who said offline. For those searching online, 61% said they start their search using a traditional search engine like Google or Bing, by far the most popular response.

When consumers look specifically for home services company reviews, Google itself is often the intended destination as Google reviews were consulted by 64% of respondents. Thus, the search giant is an important part of home services provider discovery and evaluation for many consumers.

Facebook was the second-most commonly consulted source of home services company reviews. Just 4% of all respondents selected TikTok as a platform they consult when looking for home services company reviews, but that share was a whopping 27% for Gen Z homeowners.

Nextdoor is quickly becoming a popular source of home services reviews, with 24% of respondents saying they’ve consulted it. This share is highest among older generations, and just 12% of Gen Z homeowners say they consult Nextdoor for home services reviews.
